That Schizophrenic Wal Mart Brand
I have to apologize for being yet another one of those people who perpetuate the belief that schizophrenia is multiple personality disorder. I know it’s not. But “Wal Mart Brand suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder” just wasn’t as good a headline as the one I chose.
I didn’t know this up until a few minutes ago, but apparently the Wal Mart brand is in a state of flux — and has been for two years, according to their corporate website. A few weeks ago, the company announced it’s going to begin rolling out their new logo to stores. (What new logo?!) All of this came as something of a surprise to me when I visited the walmart.com site for the very first time today and saw this. The first thing that came into my mind was “Holy shit, Wal Mart doesn’t own walmart.com.” I felt completely alienated and lost. It took several minutes of browsing in the about section and a whois lookup before I felt safe. Admittedly, I haven’t visited a Wal Mart store in almost a year, and maybe I’ve missed the “recent print advertisements and TV commercials” the company says have featured the new look.
